What is PWP

Practice with Purpose (PWP) is a dynamic, learner-led application that forms an integral part of the comprehensive suite of resources offered by the ACHiiVE Development Centre.

PWP empowers and enables learners to actively engage in the deliberate practice of critical skills during the intervals between facilitated 360 events.

The innovative application utilises the same experiential learning science that drives the amazing results from ACHiiVE’s 360 programs but places the entire process in the hands of the learner.

PWP makes practice purposeful, valuable and fun through live simulated interactions between a learner, their manager and their team.

How the tool is used:

This versatile tool is used amongst small groups of colleagues in a variety of ways – such as practicing a specific workplace scenario, or for drilling down and improving a development area identified in the learners’ Personal Development Plan.

PWP applies the effective peer and social learning methods from 360, enabling learners to experience skills from different perspectives while learning with and from colleagues.

‘With PWP, you’re no longer a passive participant but an active protagonist in your own development story.’

Learner-led

PWP enables learners to set up and conduct their own deliberate practice sessions using the same behavioural frameworks, robust assessment methodologies and coach/peer review feedback as in 360.

By reassigning control and responsibility for development to the learner, PWP offers a transformative learning experience that enables individuals to take ownership of their growth and development.

This transfers learning from something done to the learner, to something that the learner actively engages in for themselves on an ongoing basis.

Micro-learning

PWP features bite-sized micro-learning sessions which can be conveniently scheduled around busy schedules and to suit hybrid working.

This approach enables learning transfer and development to continue seamlessly in the flow of work. Whether working remotely or in an office, PWP makes it easy for learners to integrate time for professional development by breaking down learning into bite-sized easily digestible chunks, limiting time off the road, and maximising skill development in the flow-of-work.

Building expertise into high performance

1

Potential for high performance is available to us all, it is not a gift reserved for a few uniquely talented people

Modern research by Neuroscientists has revolutionised the concept of performance. It was long believed that a person’s potential was limited by the gifts they were born with, i.e. their innate talent. Learning was therefore a process of helping someone to fulfil their potential. We now understand that the brain is infinitely more adaptable and we all have the ability to create our own potential.

2

Continuous development is the key to high performance

Research by Swedish Neuroscientist Anders Ericsson (PEAK – The science of Expertise) shows that high performers across all industries, sports and environments share one unifying characteristic. They are all committed to a process of continuous development based on 3 key principles: Continous self-reflection, adaption and deliberate practice.

3

Deliberate practice

Most practice is based on repeating something until it can be done. Research shows that once this stage has been reached, even years of continued practice will not improve performance. Deliberate practice activities are defined by specific, well-structured goals; must challenge learners beyond their current capability; and must provide real-time feedback based on accurate and objective assessment of performance against the goal.

Why AI augmented assessment supports high performance

Developing high performance requires the right environment where learners feel psychologically safe to experiment and explore beyond their comfort zone. High quality assessment and accurate feedback is essential to stimulate critical self-reflection, inform adaption and accurately measure progress.

Why AI Augmented Assessment?

Provides independent, objective assessment to track learner progress, build confidence and motivation to progress to mastery while providing accurate organisational benchmarks of skill levels.
Objective and accurate AI assessment of simulated learning exercises, based on LLM and NLP analysis of transcribed activity.
Granular assessment per behaviour plus clear evidence-based rationale and suggestions to achieve mastery.
Enables learners to progress their own personal development agenda, independent of their manager. This massively reduces the burden on managers while still allowing highly engaging and affective peer learning.
Incredibly rich AI augmented assessment feedback stimulates critical self-reflection and analysis for adaption.
Removes the stress, anxiety and subjectivity of assessing colleagues. Global research shows that coaching is the manager activity that has the biggest impact on team performance yet is the least developed and used manager skill.
Enables managers to use the AI assessment to focus on the real value of coaching – engaging in non-judgemental conversations that stimulate coachee self–reflection & adaption, rather than justifying their assessment.
Creates the opportunity for autonomous deliberate practice with peers without the need to be observed by managers – creating additional psychologically safety, reducing the stress that inhibits learning.

The ACHiiVE model

Creating high performance is a continuous process rather than a project. ACHiiVE has developed an integrated, blended process of continuous improvement that is designed to transfer the power and accountability for continuous development to the learner, rather than the learner being the passive recipients of training that is periodically done to them.

When learners take control of their own development destiny and drive their own continuous improvements, it is a good indication that you have established a high-performance culture and environment.
